Hurford Parker Insurance Brokers was founded in 1994 by Jeff Parker the current Managing Director and the late Jim Hurford.
Both Jeff and Jim had many years experience in both underwriting and broking in the general insurance industry in New Zealand and together brought specific expertise in many areas of the insurance industry and in effect complimented each other in providing a very professional approach in providing for the insurance requirements of their clients.
Hurford Parker Insurance Brokers transacts what is known as "Fire and General" insurance which encompasses the risks of property insurance and liability insurance. In order to provide an additional service for their clients, an associate company, Hurford Parker Financial Services was established in 1996. Giles Thorman, the present Financial Services Manager, joined the company in 2001 bringing with him a wealth of insurance knowledge from the UK and New Zealand.
Very early on after the establishment of Hurford Parker Insurance Brokers, the directors realized that at times they needed more specific communication with other like-minded insurance brokers to deal with subjects of mutual concern. In order to achieve this a grouping of five individual insurance brokers met and from this initial contact a new firm, Brokernet New Zealand Ltd, was formed.
Brokernet today has a total of 13 independent insurance broking members representing all parts of the country from Whangarei to Invercargill. This is an extremely effective lobby group with all the advantages of a very much larger organisation and yet allowing each member to continue in a very effective practice whilst maintaining each company's individuality and independence.
Today Hurford Parker continues to enjoy a steady rate of growth with a knowledgeable team of 13 faithful and dedicated staff and is Hawke's Bay largest locally owned and operated insurance brokers.
